Artists Statement:

The Cabbage tree is our link to the primal past. Over the last three years, I have developed a large body of work, using the tree as a central motif, exploring many aspects of their unique physical complexity. During this time I have simplified my technique in an attempt to capture the essence of the trees form and character.

For this series I have been influenced by the Integral theories of writer/philosopher Ken Wilber, particularly his theory where he states that an "Integral Art" should "embrace, include and integrate the complete spectrum on consciousness", not just integrating the body and mind, but also the soul and spirit, "a complete spectrum interwoven into one conscious system", living, flexible, spontaneous but functional.

The weave meshwork which occurs throughout this series, interprets Wilbers theory of "waves of integrative energies" , where "levels and lines or waves and streams" are the "texture of psychological reality". My attempt to interpret this theory with a visual vocabulary, which is relevant , accessible but original has lead me directly into the areas in between, feeling/thinking , interior/exterior, psyche/nature, awareness/biophysical and subject with object. These relationships and their interplay are expressed with the motifs of the trees and weave pattern. This dialogue serves as a link between an obscure primal past and a cross referencing, multicultural, post mortem age of information.
